When to Choose Urgent Care in Flint, Michigan over the Emergency Room

When we experience a sudden illness or injury, we are often faced with uncertainty about where to go for care, especially if it’s after hours and our primary care provider’s office is closed. Although the answer is not always simple, understanding the distinctions between a walk-in urgent care clinic and a hospital emergency room can make a significant difference when you have an issue that needs to be addressed quickly.

When to Go to the Emergency Room

Emergency rooms are staffed around the clock and treat severe, life-threatening health problems that require immediate medical attention in a hospital setting. Although they are equipped to offer a higher level of care for life-threatening emergencies, there are often long wait times to receive ER care if you are experiencing minor illnesses or injuries. Go to the emergency room or dial 911 if you are experiencing:

  • Stroke Symptoms
  • Heart Attack Symptoms
  • Chest Pain or Difficulty Breathing
  • Severe Allergic Reaction
  • Concussion or Head/Eye Injury
  • Severe Abdominal Pain
  • Severe Cuts or Lacerations
  • Loss of a Limb

When to Go to Urgent Care

Urgent care offers walk-in service for a wide range of medical issues that do not require emergency attention but need to be treated right away. Unlike emergency rooms, urgent care is more convenient, cost-effective, and is a great resource for when you need care but can’t see your doctor. Go to urgent care if you are experiencing:

  • Cold or Flu Symptoms
  • Earaches
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Sprains or Strains
  • Small Cuts or Lacerations
  • Allergies
  • Nausea or Vomiting
  • Work-related Injuries

Insight Urgent Care, StatOrtho Orthopedic Care, and On-Demand Occupational Medicine in Flint, Michigan offers same-day walk-in appointments for the entire family year-round from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. seven days a week.
