Treatment for Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis)
Tennis elbow is a painful condition that impacts the outer part of the elbow joint. It is common in athletes, but can affect anyone who participates in activities that involve repeated elbow movements. Steroid injections for tennis elbow can provide relief for up to six weeks.
Step One
A combination of local anesthetic and corticosteroid is injected into the affected area. A real-time ultrasound scan ensures that the correct area is being targeted. Guided injections are more effective at reducing pain than non-guided injections.
Step Two
After the procedure, a bandage is placed over the injection area. Steroid injections are effective at treating pain initially, but inflammation and pain are likely to return after six weeks.
