BOTOX Injection for Migraines
BOTOX is a brand name of injections for migraines, and is a common treatment for people who experience a frequent, severe headache condition called chronic migraine. This injection is a type of nerve toxin that paralyzes muscles and blocks chemicals called neurotransmitters that carry pain signals from the brain. BOTOX injections help stop migraine headaches before they start. For maximum relief, physicians may recommend multiple injections over a period of time.
Step One
BOTOX injection for migraines is an outpatient procedure that consists of a series of injections that go into specific areas of the head and neck. Injections are not painful and feel like tiny pinpricks. The procedure takes approximately 15 minutes.
Step Two
After the first procedure, the physician will develop a continuing care plan to manage chronic headaches. Most patients are asked to return for more injections every three months.
