What is a medical spa?

A medical spa or MedSpa is a hybrid between a doctor’s office and a day spa. Insight Health Spa patients have the option of getting medical services like Botox, laser hair removal, and therapeutic skin treatment therapies. Our staff is licensed, educated, and trained to ensure the highest level of care for each and every guest.

Does Insight Health Spa do consultations?

Initial consultations at Insight Health Spa with our staff are complimentary.

What are your privacy rules?

Insight Health Spa is a medical facility and as such we adhere to HIPAA laws. Your visit is 100% confidential. Whether you receive treatment with us or not, your visit will not be discussed.

Your Title Goes Do you accept insurance?

Most cosmetic procedures are not considered to be medically necessary by insurance carriers. Therefore, charges must be paid at the time of each visit. Some procedures may be approved by your insurance carrier or flexible spending account. The spa will provide you with necessary receipts and forms to include with your claim submission. Your insurance carrier will reimburse you directly for any covered services.

How does laser hair reduction work?

The laser beam is made up of precisely controlled pulses of energy; it is absorbed by the melanin or pigment in the hair and reaches into the hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, safely destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin.

Am I a suitable candidate for laser hair reduction?

Following are some of the issues that may factor into the effectiveness of laser hair removal procedures:

  • Because the laser targets pigment, the laser is not effective on white, gray, or red hair.
  • Although the treatment is safe, pregnant women should wait until after their postpartum checkup before proceeding.
  • Anyone who suffers from conditions such as keloid formation or hypertrophic scarring should not have laser hair reduction.
  • Laser hair reduction cannot be performed over any tattoos or permanent makeup.
How many sessions are needed?

It varies. Hair grows in three different phases. Laser treatment can only affect hair in the active growth phase (anagen stage). At any one time, 90 percent of follicles will be in this stage. Therefore, a course of treatment is needed to ensure that all follicles are permanently affected and will not produce any more hair.

Is the treatment painful?

As pain tolerance differs from person to person, this question is relative to the individual. While some people say they feel no pain, others say the pain can be described as an elastic band being snapped on their skin.

Are there any side effects?

Redness or some swelling to the skin are short-term side effects following each treatment, and this usually settles within a few hours. If the skin is more sensitive type, it may take a few days for the redness to disappear completely.

What should I do before my treatment?

Keep the skin as natural as possible. You should avoid sun exposure to the treatment area, sunbeds, and tanning products. Additionally, if you are taking tablets for acne such as RoAccutane, it must be discontinued prior to the laser treatment. (Talk with your doctor before discontinuing any medications.) Finally, stop any waxing, tweezing, hair removal creams, or hair bleaching agents two weeks prior to the appointment.

What is Botox?

Botox is a purified protein derived from Botulinum Toxin A. Botox works by preventing the transmission of nerve impulses to the injected muscle, therefore relaxing the facial movements that create facial lines. Cosmetic injections can be used to treat wrinkles of the face (forehead wrinkles, frown lines, crow’s feet). Before Botox was used for cosmetic purposes, it was FDA-approved for alternative treatments for migraine headaches, lower back pain, excessive sweating, muscle spasticity, neck spasms, facial spasms, and vocal cord spasms.

How long does Botox last?

Botox can last up to four months depending on the area that is treated, but the duration of results may vary from person to person.

What is a filler?

A filler is an injectable gel that contains hyaluronic acid, a naturally occurring sugar found in the human body. The role of hyaluronic acid in the skin is to deliver nutrients, hydrate the skin by holding in water, and to act as a cushioning agent. Fillers help contour and add volume to areas of the face that can be diminished by aging and weight loss.

How long does it take to get an appointment?

In most cases, you can be seen on the same day or the following day.

Do you take my insurance?

We accept most types of insurance, including Blue Cross, Medicare, HealthPlus, and McLaren.

What if I do not have insurance?

If you are uninsured, we do not accept your insurance, or your insurance does not cover chiropractic treatment, we offer affordable self-pay options.

What if it is urgent?

We can often make an appointment on the same day you request it, but if you are having severe or alarming symptoms – such as vision problems, bowel or bladder issues, or numbness or weakness in the arms or legs – you are advised to call the emergency room first.

What is chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a specialty that focuses on conservative care of the musculoskeletal system, especially the spine. Chiropractors use a variety of safe, non-invasive procedures to mobilize joints, decrease muscle tension, and relieve pain.

What should I expect as a patient?

On your first visit, your chiropractor will take a history of your problem, such as gathering details about past injuries, medications, other treatments, and quality and severity of the pain. An examination will then be performed to test your reflexes, muscle strength, and sensation. Orthopedic tests will also be performed to pinpoint the source of your pain and rule out serious issues. An appropriate treatment plan will then be tailored to your specific problem. Treatment possibilities include:
joint manipulation/mobilization
soft tissue mobilization/manual therapy
therapeutic exercise
traction
muscle stimulation
therapeutic ultrasound
heat/ice
For most issues, you will need to return 1 to 3 times per week to continue treatment. Most patients are re-evaluated every 30 days, at which point the treatment will be modified or continued or you will be discharged from active care.

Will I need to keep coming forever?

No. We rarely do long-term chiropractic treatment at Insight. If you improve, we will taper down your visits, and you will be discharged with home exercises to maintain your problem on your own. If you do not improve, we will make recommendations for other treatments. The goal is always to empower you to manage your pain without any treatment.

Is it safe?

Even though chiropractic treatments are among the safest treatment options available, Dr. Denning and Dr. Sullivant take the time to thoroughly examine and review each patient in order to ensure that they are providing the proper treatments for the lowest possible risk to you.

Will they “pop” my joints?

Some techniques do typically cause joint cavitation, or “popping,” but we use a wide variety of techniques to fit the patient and the problem. “Popping” a joint is never the ultimate goal of a treatment. The sound heard during some manipulations are simply gas bubbles being formed from the decrease in pressure in joint fluid, and are not beneficial in themselves; the “pops” during treatment may represent that a joint has moved to its end range, which is where we see the most benefit from manipulation. Some joints will never cavitate, however, due to arthritis and decreased joint space/fluid, but manipulation can still provide relief in many cases.

How does chiropractic manipulative therapy (adjusting) work?

For many years, chiropractors assumed that the bones in your spine regularly went “out of place,” calling these “subluxations.” This has long been disproven, although some chiropractors and other physicians still hold to this belief.
While there is still much controversy on the subject, modern pain science tells us that manipulation causes rapid stretching and stimulation of muscles, ligaments, and joint surfaces, which contain nerve endings called mechanoreceptors. When these mechanoreceptors are activated, they can block pain signals from ever reaching the brain.

Repeated manipulation increases your range of motion, and exercise helps to maintain healthy motion in your joints. Motion is like an essential vitamin for your joints and muscles, and manipulation is like a megadose of motion.
